It's about the journey, isn't it?

So I titled my blog "It's About The Journey..." because that very much sums up my teaching career as well as what I am hoping to learn and become in this class and in the Masters program.  I have taught in four different schools over the course of seven years, five different principals, seven different classes, and four different grades (all of the levels of achievement from remedial to AP) and now I am a catch-all academic support for a teen pregnant and parenting program in the district.

All of that being said it has been an incredible journey so far and I have no idea where I am going!  That is kind of how I feel about this Masters program too.  I knew the next challenge I wanted to face on my journey was one that would re-focus on my education.  I always tell me students to be life-long learners and I felt that I had gotten away from doing that myself.

With all of the experiences I have had I want to look into how I can be better at what I do.  What am I hoping to learn?  I am not entirely sure, I guess. I am hoping to learn to be better at what I do and figure out how to inspire other to do so as well.

It's about the journey, isn't it?

  1. I know how you feel! In my first six years I have had seven different preps. It's been exhausting at times, and every September I feel like a first year teacher again because of the new content I am expected to learn and teach.

But our staff is pretty great, teachers and administrators. The silver lining is that I have had an opportunity to gain experience with more curriculum and materials than most others.

Eventually it will stabilize for both of us (hopefully).

  2. It is all about the journey and here we go! That is what I love about our profession as it continues to change before our eyes. At times stressful?! Absolutely! I am looking forward to learning more about myself as a teacher leader and building on my strengths. :)

  3. WOW! 7 years....4 new schools....all those different principals and staff....oh my! Bless your heart!! I can't imagine the stress you have gone through with learning how everyone operates and what they expect from you as a teacher! You know what? It IS all about your journey! And WHAT A JOURNEY it's been thus far! But now you are getting the amazing opportunity to aid these pregnant 'children' and show them the importance of education and how it can change their lives! That dropping out isn't the answer just because they are pregnant! Your whole journey of experience may have led you up to this specific arena of education. Leadership is a HUGE factor in your current position and working to strengthen these skills is going to help you to reach students on a level that we may never experience. I applaud you for that my friend! =)
